The Thing About Us is a triptych of short films about an ex-couple on a road trip, which explores the same story through a queer lens, a hetero one and finally intercut in the third part.

This was my first project with Jill Soloway. It was written and directed by one of their mentees, Keely Marina Weiss and it was so much fun to work on. Keely wrote this short script about an ex-couple that are still friends on a road trip where they run out of gas – just kind of moment in time relationship study -  and she shot two versions, one with a straight couple and one with a queer female couple. I cut the queer version as well as a third version that made it this really interesting triptych by intercutting the two versions together. It was so fascinating to see how the two original pieces felt different just by the nature of the differences in genders and sexuality in play and how they felt similar and how the different actors took scenes and emotions to different places and then to get to weave the two together was so much fun.
