Born in small town Massachusetts, I was raised on cinema, books, music and cat whispering. I studied creative writing and video editing at Hampshire College. My first scripted editing credit was on Transparent. Recent editing credits include Dead To Me for Netflix and Good American Family for Hulu. I just cut my fourth independent feature, Perfect, in the Fall of 2024. I’m passionate about telling character driven stories particularly in the queer community and shifting focus from the straight, white, cis male view that has dominated for decades.
My father taught cinema so I was raised on black and white films - he was like my personal Turner Classic Movies - he always had a little schpiel before he would show me something and when he picked up on something that resonated with me he would help foster that passion and introduce me to more similar films. We had a huge library of VHS that he put together along with a binder that listed the movies by title and by director so you could find what you wanted or go down a rabbit hole with a certain director. That in combination with a substantial library and a huge record collection made growing up in the middle of nowhere much more interesting. There was always something to discover.
I think it was partially the fact that my house was so remote that I became obsessed with stories. We didn’t live close to any other kids I could play with so I was either reading a story, watching a film or a tv show or making my own stories - either writing short ones or playing out the stories with my Barbies. Then as a teenager I was all about making mix tapes. When I discovered editing, in high school, it felt like it put all of these things together, like you were making some kind of three dimensional mix tape by editing footage and music together. Once I finished my first editing project, I was hooked.
